Remembering Survivor Castaways We’ve Lost — A Tribute to 17 Legends of the Game

Since its premiere in 2000, Survivor has become one of television’s most enduring reality competition series. Over more than two decades and nearly 50 seasons, hundreds of castaways have competed for the title of Sole Survivor. Along the way, some of these players have sadly passed away, leaving lasting legacies within the Survivor community and beyond.

Here is a compassionate look back at 17 former Survivor contestants who are no longer with us, remembering their impact on the show and the lives they touched.


🕯️ 1. Jane Bright (Survivor: Nicaragua — Season 21)

Jane Bright, beloved by fans for her strong personality and resilience, passed away at age 71 in May 2025. She placed sixth and won the Sprint Fan Favorite award, earning admiration for her spirited gameplay.


🕯️ 2. Kim Johnson (Survivor: Africa — Season 3)

Kim Johnson, known for her fierce competitiveness and inspiring run to the Final Two, died in July 2024 at age 79. She was celebrated for her leadership and became a memorable figure in Survivor history.


🕯️ 3. Sonja Christopher (Survivor: Borneo — Season 1)

Sonja was the very first contestant ever voted out in Survivor history but remained a fondly remembered personality. She passed away in April 2024 at the age of 87.


🕯️ 4. Keith Nale (Survivor: San Juan del Sur & Cambodia)

A fan favorite known for his humor and strategic flair, Keith died in April 2023 at age 62 after a private battle with cancer.


🕯️ 5. Roger Sexton (Survivor: The Amazon — Season 6)

Roger passed away in October 2022 at age 76 after a long struggle with Lewy body dementia. He was known for his tough competitive edge and relentless gameplay.


🕯️ 6. Dan Lembo (Survivor: Nicaragua — Season 21)

Dan Lembo, remembered for his emotional moments and strong social game, died in September 2022 at age 75.


🕯️ 7. Clay Jordan (Survivor: Thailand — Season 5)

Clay, a runner-up with a warm personality and strategic mind, passed in May 2022 at age 66 following a brief illness.


🕯️ 8. Ralph Kiser (Survivor: Redemption Island — Season 22)

Ralph died from a heart attack in April 2022 at age 56. He was remembered for his humor and competitive spirit.


🕯️ 9. Angie Jakusz (Survivor: Palau — Season 10)

Angie passed away in January 2021 at age 40 after battling a rare form of cancer.


🕯️ 10. Cliff Robinson (Survivor: Cagayan — Season 28)

Former NBA star Cliff Robinson died of lymphoma at age 53 in August 2020.


🕯️ 11. Caleb Bankston (Survivor: Blood vs. Water — Season 27)

Caleb died tragically at age 26 in June 2014 in a railway accident, leaving a profound impact on fans and fellow contestants.


🕯️ 12. Sunday Burquest (Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X — Season 33)

Sunday died in April 2021 at age 50 from esophageal and ovarian cancer.


🕯️ 13. B.B. Andersen (Survivor: Borneo — Season 1)

One of the earliest castaways in Survivor history, B.B. passed away in October 2013 from brain cancer at age 77.


🕯️ 14. Jennifer “Jenn” Lyon (Survivor: Palau — Season 10)

Jenn Lyon, who competed in one of Survivor’s most strategic seasons, died in January 2010 at age 37 after battling breast cancer.


🕯️ 15. Rudy Boesch (Survivor: Borneo & All-Stars — Seasons 1 & 8)

A Survivor legend and beloved pioneer of the show, Rudy passed away in November 2019 at age 91 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.


🕯️ 16. Ashley Massaro (Survivor: China — Season 15)

Ashley, a former WWE star turned Survivor contestant, died by suicide in May 2019 at age 39.


🕯️ 17. Dan Kay (Survivor: Gabon — Season 17)

Dan passed away in December 2016 at age 40 under circumstances not publicly disclosed.


A Legacy Beyond the Game

These castaways came from diverse backgrounds and competed under extreme conditions, showing resilience, determination, and heart. Although they are no longer with us, their personalities and contributions continue to shape the Survivor community — inspiring fans around the world and reminding us that the impact of this show extends far beyond competition.
