Kendra Duggar shared the advice she received from her mother-in-law Michelle Duggar following her arrest during a jail phone call with her husband Joseph Duggar on March 22.
“Your mom and I, we got to visit this morning, and she was encouraging me with how to live humbly,” Kendra tells Joseph during the call made from the Washington County Detention Facility obtained by PEOPLE. “That God, he’s gracious to the humble, so I thought I wanted to encourage you with that.”
She then tells Joseph: “I know you’ve been trying to be, I feel like you were trying to walk humbly.”
Kendra later tells her husband that Michelle is “so sweet” and notes that she has been a positive and calming influence on her in the days after her arrest.

On that same call, Kendra also says she has not been able to eat two days after her arrest by authorities in Arkansas because her stomach is still “not settled.”
“Mama keeps trying to get me to eat,” Kendra says, but tells her husband that she is only able to consume liquids and not solid foods.
She says this is from the stress she is experiencing from the arrest and not having her four children with her.
Kendra was booked into custody at the Washington County Detention Facility on March 20 after she and Joseph were both charged with four misdemeanor counts each of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree false imprisonment.
A spokesperson for the family previously told PEOPLE that the charges against Kendra are “totally unrelated” to the felony charges her husband is facing in Florida.
“She’s not suspected or accused of participating in his alleged crime,” the spokesperson told PEOPLE.
Joseph is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior in Florida after being accused of molesting a 9-year-old girl during a 2020 vacation to Panama City Beach.
He entered a written plea of not guilty and is now out on a $600,000 bond, but he is not allowed to have unsupervised contact with any minors under the age of 18 — including his four children.

The stress of the situation is taking a physical toll on Kendra as well, she says, telling Joseph on the call that she is feeling weak and struggling to sleep.
“I lost my laugh too, like it’s a silent laugh, you know how when I was really sick,” Kendra says. “I have a silent laugh again.”
A spokesperson for the Duggar family previously told PEOPLE that Jim Bob and Michelle are “heartbroken” about this situation and rallying around Kendra.
“Right now, they are focused on loving their family and helping Kendra and her children during this difficult time,” the spokesperson said. “They are praying for the victim. They ask for privacy and appreciate the kind words and prayers offered by so many.”
