PROJECT Runway fans are divided over new judge Law Roach’s very strong critiques on the first episodes of season 22

Celeb stylist Law, whose A-list clients include Zendaya and Celine Dion, just joined the judging panel alongside Heidi Klum and Nina Garcia.

In past seasons, the judges’ comments were often entirely positive or constructive criticism, but Law has raised eyebrows with his very harsh responses.

On the premiere, Law left contestant Jesus Estrada bursting into tears after he said he “hated” his look- despite the designer landing in the top three of the week.

“I hated it,” Law said, disagreeing with Heidi and Nina.

“I’m sorry you hate the coat,” Jesus responded, before Law interrupted him: “I hated the whole thing!”

Jesus started crying, prompting Nina to flatter his black dress and burgundy coat.

“Guys I have to disagree with everything Nina said,” Law exclaimed.

To me, she doesn’t look cool, she doesn’t look young, she looks like a Nigerian auntie!”

On the third episode, Law expressed his disgust with Ethan Mundt’s entire team, who used a denim fabric to create “showstopper” looks

“I am really pissed off about this collection,” he fumed.

“I did not come to work to look at a bunch of ugly f***ing clothes!”

NAUGHTY AND NICE

However, Law was at times kind and complimentary over designs he did love.

On the second challenge, he raved over Jesus’ athleisure-inpired outfit, claiming the designer redeemed himself from the first challenge.

“I have to say this, you have done something that a lot of people cannot do, and that is to shut me up,” Law said.

“I was so tough on you on the runway…I would wear those pants in a heartbeat!”

Some fans loved Law’s new style of judging, likening him to sharp-tongued Simon Cowell in American Idol‘s early seasons.

“I find him endearing,” one Reddit follower said. “He’s the friend I want by my side. No fru fru fake nice. Tell me my zipper is down.

“Law wants to see people win. His critiques are not mean, they’re direct and thoughtful. He’s clearly in love with his craft and rightfully respected in the industry.”

“I think he’s perfect and making the season,” a second chimed in.

“At least we have someone making things interesting!” a third claimed.

Others thought he went way too far.

“He’s catty and gives no real advice,” one said.

“He’s far too cruel and should not be on the show,” another insisted. “He should be fired!”
